By all accounts the next Games in Brisbane are in shambles.
Revizto has released Bridging the Gap: The 2025 Digital Design & Construction Report, a global deep dive into the trends and challenges redefining the architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AECO) industry. These respondents represent firms with significant influence, most with revenues above $100 million and project portfolios valued between $50 million and $500 million.
In Australia, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has committed A$44.9 million to Calix to build a novel demonstration plant using its Zero Emissions Steel Technology (ZESTY). Powered by renewable electricity and hydrogen, the plant will aim to produce up to 30,000 metric tons of low-carbon hydrogen direct reduced iron (HDRI) and hot briquetted iron (HBI) each year in a strong step toward cleaner steelmaking.
Tunnelling is now complete across all three tunnels on the $2.2 billion Coffs Harbour Bypass project in New South Wales.The 160 metre Roberts Hill tunnel was the last to be completed, following the completion of tunnelling previously on the 320 metre Shephards Lane tunnel and 410 metre Gatelys Road tunnel.
The $4.9 billion HumeLink transmission line is now open to wind, solar, and battery project proposals, unlocking 3,000 MW capacity. However, Snowy 2.0 will take up most of it. Despite high demand, limited room remains for other projects. Construction starts in 2025 and completes by 2027 amid cost blowouts.

Lismoreās long-term recovery from the devastating floods of early 2022 has taken an important step forward, with a contract awarded to a joint venture between CMC Group and JF Hull Holdings for the regionās largest road restoration package.The major construction contract will enable critical repairs to restore roads from more than 60 landslips, improving reliability and reconnecting towns.
Clean energy solutions provider Gentari yesterday marked the groundbreaking of the Maryvale Solar & Energy Storage project (Project Maryvale), a key milestone in delivering reliable, low-carbon energy for New South Wales (NSW).At the peak of construction, the project is expected to create up to 360 jobs and unlock local opportunities across the regional supply chain.
Swedish developer OX2 has received environmental approval to build a 135 MW solar farm with battery storage at a former coal mine in Muswellbrook, NSW. Scheduled for 2027, it will repurpose the decommissioned site into an energy hub within the Hunter-Central Coast REZ, supporting Australia's clean energy transition.
Shellharbour City Council is moving forward with plans for a proposed hotel development on a 6,736 m2 Council-owned site.

Four new members join the Queensland Rail board, the government announced.The new appointees bring to the government-owned entity industry knowledge across rail operations, cyber security, technology transformation, finance and manufacturing.

The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has released Marinus Link Pty Ltdās (MLPL) revised Stage 1, Part B construction cost revenue proposal, detailing updated capital forecasts for the 750 MW Bass Strait interconnectorās first stage and enabling works for Stage 2.
VIC
Federal approval has been granted for a major new housing development near the Queen Victoria Market likely to unlock thousands of homes.
WA
Seawater desalination has been chosen as Exmouthās future drinking water source, with construction to be staged over time. The project aims to support population growth, reduce groundwater reliance, and improve water quality. Pending approvals, delivery is expected within five years, with three sites shortlisted and $1 million in federal funding secured.
