Safe Work Australia has released a model Code of Practice to help manage risks from respirable crystalline silica. Silica dust can cause silicosis and lung cancer. The code offers practical guidance for employers to meet WHS regulations and reduce exposure. Legal application depends on approval in each jurisdiction.

Construction Mitsubishi Estate to help develop $1.3bn mixed-use complex in Sydney Japan developer looks to Australia in push to broaden overseas operations The centerpiece of Mitsubishi Estate's new project is a 48-story tower overlooking Sydney's Darling Harbour.
The City of Sydney is seeking feedback to help shape the planning and design of a multimillion-dollar renewal of the state-heritage-listed Paddington Town Hall on Oxford Street.
NT
An independent review of the NAIF Act, led by Warren Snowdon, recommends allowing the facility to make investment decisions beyond 2026. After extensive stakeholder engagement, the review proposed 21 changes to strengthen governance, reflecting broad support for NAIF’s role in Northern Australia’s development. The government will respond in coming months.
QLD
The state has committed millions towards critical infrastructure in one of its fastest-growing regions – paving the way for nearly 12,000 new homes. The Queensland government has announced $73.6 million towards two infrastructure projects in Ipswich to fast-track new housing. According to the government, this could unlock 11,300 new homes in Ripley – one of the state’s fastest growing areas that is expected to house 131,000 residents once fully developed.
A development application has been lodged for two residential towers, located at 12 Chalk Street, Wooloowin. Designed by Ellivo Architects, the proposal seeks 232 multiple dwellings across two residential towers (12 and 14 storeys) within the established Greville precinct.

Designed by Nettletontribe, the proposal seeks twenty (20) high density units within a new thin residential building, with a maximum building height of 36 storeys that includes communal spaces, a rooftop pool, and landscaped terraces.
The Government has today announced funding under the Fund will support the construction of two critical infrastructure projects, delivering a $20 million boost towards a $61.3 million development in the Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) which is set to unlock 3,350 new homes. The Fund will also deliver a $10 million boost towards the $20 million Yarrabilba Dollarbird Drive Intersection which will unlock 4,900 new homes in the Yarrabilba PDA.
SA
Two energy companies that were set to benefit from a more than $5 billion desalination plant and water pipeline have pulled out, prompting questions over the project's final cost and feasibility.
TAS
The Commonwealth has placed 88 conditions on the 100-turbine Robbins Island wind farm as part of its approval after years of delays. Conditions could require the wind farm to temporarily stop operating as part of a yet-to-be-determined bird plan, to reduce impacts on endangered and critically endangered migratory bird species.
VIC
The jointly funded $100 million Transport Amenity Program is one of the largest streetscape upgrades in Melbourne’s history and will improve traffic flow and public spaces, while managing the anticipated changes to traffic when the West Gate Tunnel Project opens. Works will begin in September.
The 400MW Mt Fyans Wind Farm near Mortlake has been approved, featuring 81 turbines and creating over 100 construction jobs. It’s Victoria’s third-largest approved wind project in a decade, supporting renewable energy goals, lowering power costs, and contributing to Victoria’s 2040 energy transition, which will require 67,000 new jobs.
Golden Plains Wind Farm, located near Rokewood in southwest Victoria, is Australia’s largest wind project. Stage 1 construction is now complete with all 122 turbines installed and 215 concrete foundations poured. The 1.33 GW project is injecting up to 600 MW into the grid, with Stage 2 construction now underway.
The Victoria state government has give planning approval to a 400 megawatt (MW) wind project that has been tied up in the approvals process for nearly a decade. The approval for the Mt Fyans wind farm project near Mortlake, west of Geelong, is believed to be the first major wind project to get approval in three years, and the first since the state revamped its planning process last year.

The Australian Government has announced the launch of two new Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) tenders in Western Australia. The tenders are expected to unlock 1.6 GW of new renewable generation backed up by 2.4 GWh of clean dispatchable capacity to the Australian Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM), enough to power more than 900,000 households annually and enough storage to cover the peak load of 550,000 households for 4 hours.

China says it has completed a load test involving dozens of trucks on the world's highest bridge, a steel suspension structure in Guizhou province.The five-day testing was completed on Aug. 25, with details of the project made available to media.
Stantec VP Jeff Albee says states and federal regulators should step into the void and begin developing the framework for responsible artificial intelligence regulation that doesn't stifle creativity.
Tajik president Emomali Rahmon visited the under-construction Rogun hydropower dam this week to instruct the main contractor, Italy’s Webuild, to “work around the clock” while the benign summer weather lasts. The president is eager to get the Soviet-era megaproject, which Webuild has been working on for 11 years, finished as soon as possible. More than 18,000 workers are on site, according to the president’s office.
